In the 1830s, The Indian Removal Act was passed, which forced Native tribes such as the Cherokee to move to the west of the Mississippi River. President Jackson’s actions of the Indian Removal Act lead to the trail of tears, where many Native Americans died along the way. This paper will analyze and explain the different perspectives of the Indian Removal Act. Andrew Jackson discusses that the obligation to help the ‘savage’ Native Americans to become civilized and to settle them in the West. But â€Å"we have at the same time lost no opportunity to purchase their lands and thrust them farther into the wilderness.† President Jackson says that these people should be in accordance with the laws of Georgia and Alabama, or they should be forced to leave. This is very strange thinking, because the land was not originally the Americans, but the Native Americans. President Jackson wants the people who have lived on the lands for centuries to comply with the immigrant’s wishes. Jackson proposed the idea of treaties with the Native tribes to move them westward. Spanish 1 0 1- 03 Cultural Composition October 23 , 2013 El laberinto del fauno Pan's Labyrinth (2007), directed by Guillermo del Toro, is the story of a girl named Ofelia who escapes from the reality of war into a magical land . S he is a lost princess who must regain her title through a series of tasks given to her by a mysterious faun. It fits neatly into the categorization of the fantasy genre, where magic is often a driving force of the plot. The genre of fantasy uses a number of conventions such as good vs. evil, the quest of the hero, magic and magical beings to tell a story, and Pan's Labyrinth is no exception to this rule. Pan's Labyrinth is set in Spain, during 1944 at the time Francisco Franco taking power as dictator in Spain . The setting takes place at a house, known in the movie as a mill, surrounded by the forest. The movie shows two worlds; the real world and the fairy tale world of a little girl, Ofelia. It depicts violence and repression from the Francoise regime, as well as by resistance from antifascist guerrillas who hide in the mountains and are aided by village sympathizers. Ofelia s stepfather, Vidal, is a cruel captain in Franco's Civil Guard based at a rural military post. As figure of Fascism, Vidal is in charge of fighting the guerrillas who resist his regime. Ofelia is an orphan whose father died in obscure circumstances during the Spanish Civil War. Carmen, her mother, remarried Vidal who controls her and limits her to being a housewife. She is constantly sick and weak to the point where she cannot leave the bedroom during the last weeks of her pregnancy with Vidal's child. From the beginning of the story, it is clear that Ofelia does not have a good relationship with her stepfather. Vidal is incapable of noble feelings, and completely uninterested in any type of familial relationship with Ofelia. The main theme of the story centers on Ofelia's internal struggle . She loves to read fairy tales, although her mother disapproves of her reading and encourages her to stop. In the film, Carmen does not seem to be very interested in Ofelia's interests or her emotional well being, but rather constantly thinking of ways to please Vidal. For instance, she pressures Ofelia to call the vicious captain "father." She is isolated in a violent world with a weak and needy mother who is constantly sick and a disconnected, nasty stepfather whose only interest is in gaining more power and does not care about her. Ofelia is left with no choice but to escape into her fantasy world in quest for finding a new hope and identity. Mercedes is her only hope in the real world, who takes the role of Ofelia's biological mother. In conclusion, the film is based on Ofelia's difficult change of circumstances that surrounds the story, allowing for an exploration of a psychological process associated with her inner reality. In this film, fantasy and innocence conflict with reality and cruelty to describe the characters of Ofelia and Vidal, respectively. Soy un estudiante de tercer ano de la Facultad de Administracion de Empresas y Contabilidad, teniendo Licenciatura en Ciencias en Tecnologia de la Informacion, estudiando en el Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion. Naci en un pequeno pueblo de Tanza Gua y era un campo de cultivo detras de mi casa. Pase la mayor parte de mi tiempo jugando afuera con los ninos del barrio. En mi familia, tengo un hermano que es once anos mayor que. Realmente aprecio el hecho de que tengo una estancia en la casa madre y el padre. Fue agradable volver a casa a una casa que no estaba vacio. Mi padre es un empleado del gobierno y mi madre es ama de casa normal. Desde hace mas de 18 anos he sido un apasionado de la toma de fotografias. Ha sido mi hobby y pasatiempo. Ahora, he decidido crear mi propio rincon del ciberespacio para compartir mi amor por la fotografia. Mi infancia consistio en una fascinacion de ver el medio ambiente y asi es como me gusta pasar mi tiempo para tomar unas instantaneas. La fotografia es mi existencia completa. Me paso horas y horas mirando a todos los libros y la imagen. No hay nada en mi vida, excepto la fotografia. Todos tenemos capacidades creativas; me crie sin exposicion al arte y crecio creyendo que no tenia talento. En cuanto a la transformacion, me paso horas en cada imagen hasta que este satisfecho con los resultados. Yo no tenia la intencion de ser un fotografo. Esto solo sucedio. Lo que puedo decir es que me encanta lo que hago y yo pasamos mucho tiempo refinacion, perfeccionando y hasta obsesionado con mi trabajo. Es una pasion. Me entusiasma la oportunidad de estar en armonia con mi entorno y tratar de capturar el maravilloso mundo que me rodea. Me encanta la naturaleza, encuentro la belleza en las cosas cotidianas y disfrutar yo. Creo que una clase de fotografia deberia ser un requisito en todos los programas educativos, ya que te hace ver el mundo en lugar de solo mirarlo. Para capturar recuerdos que duraran toda la vida, incluso si usted no puede. Pase la mitad de mi vida pensando que una camara era solo para la captura de instantaneas familiares o eventos de grabacion. Entonces llego el dia en que me di cuenta de que algunas personas lo utilizan para crear arte. Me pase la otra mitad de mi vida admirando el trabajo de esa gente, convencida de que la fotografia como arte era algo fuera de mi alcance. Al final del dia, se que mi pasion por esta actividad proviene de mi alegria de ser uno con la naturaleza y ser capaz de escapar de las preocupaciones diarias y los problemas de trabajo y de vida. Creo que una gran fotografia pueden compartir la experiencia y una gran foto se puede decir mas que mil palabras, si se toma correctamente. Supongo que es mi objetivo inmodesto que me esfuerzo para llegar a cada vez que cojo mi camara y la cabeza por la puerta.
